That Cat

Never did like that cat,
hissing and purring like it did.

Would bite the neighbor's dog
and paw at my eggs, cooked sunny side up.

Would meow at the bird's nest,
on the highest branch of the pine tree.

Chased the rooster away from the hens,
right before mating season, too.

Tried to swipe at the catfish in the pond,
but it fell in and never made it out.

Now it's buried underground in front of the palm tree.
Never did like that cat.
