The A in Autism

My precious boy
Struck by autism
Agony

My sweet boy, no words,
Screams with deep pressed sounds
Down--emotion
Angry

My loving boy,
Hurting with pain not
Spoken with language,
Air--Danny is breathing quick

Danny in slow motion knows
Astonishment in his brushing against
A tree. flower. dog
Words come forth like
Out of a tomb

Autism

This Poems Story

My son, Daniel, has autism. Sometimes there are ups and downs with disorder. My son has inspired me and has inspired my family to walk with him through the screams of nonverbal frustration and through the excitement of understanding words into meaningful experiences. My faith has inspired me to keep going even though times are tough. As a military wife, my husband is mostly absent, however, it's my faith and three kids that open my eyes to a wonderful world.
