the alligator

i fell in love with a crocodile.
or was it an alligator?

who told the alligator it was grotesque?
i trembled at the thought of touching her
Its hide is rough and thick, covered in scars.

look at how elegant and peaceful the alligator is!
i dreamed of the droll days with her
it draws its prey close to cool pools of life, and then smites it.

such a friendly creature. what teeth, what a smile!
i was fooled by her laugh and cheerful countenance
its teeth made gashes and bruises on my body.

who told the alligator it could not exist among the glorious gazelle?
she refused all the love i gave her
the alligator is a solitary creature.

one day the alligator will escape from its scaly prison!
she will soar above the clouds like the albatross
it will dance with its mate.

my heart was broken by a crocodile, an alligator.
