The Art of Forgetting You

It's been awhile
I haven't seen your face
It's disappearing
Like stars in the morning
Lurking,
Ready for night to shine.
Facing life teaches you things,
More than I can understand.
Until I come face-to-face with it
That struggle where you need everything
Mind, body, and soul to remain living.
I'm forgetting you.
Finally, after harboring the hurt you've caused
And using it as my muse.
I no longer write about my pain from you,
The pain that left me cold, alone and drowning in a sea
of self doubt
I've accepted it.
Things happen.
People change.
Feelings stop.
I see that now,
As I've forgotten what you sound like
And how how my tears stung that day,
That it gets easier to forget you,
Every single day.
