The Battle of a Broken Heart

The chill that takes over your heart,
the icy knife that pierces your chest.
It haunts you in your sleep
and fills you with fear of never again feeling warmth.

Before you sleep,
you will pray to a god you no longer believe in.
You ask for no dreams to raise your hopes
that a shining knight will come and warm your heart.

You soon begin to cry
and mistakenly fall asleep.
The memories you run from,
those of your long gone happiness,
enter your mind.

Soon enough you wake to the morning sun,
you wipe the tears
and begin to start the day anew
with your broken heart fighting you.
