The Beast That Lurks
I am the beast that lurks in the night.
I am the beast that gives everyone fright.
I am the beast some people detest.
I am the beast that others will test.
I am a beast that crushes thy will,
Tearing down mountains and flattening hills.
With a chill, any meaningless man I can kill.
Yet still, I am vital to those who are ill.
But even I can be squandered, you have only to wander.
About why I am here,
Because without me you would have nothing to fear,
And nothing to cheer,
And nothing to steer,
And nothing to hear.
For I am the greatest most absolute thing.
I conquer all people, and powerful kings.
And men of the ages have tried to control me,
But none have been able to merely hold me.
My message is simple, no intentions of crime.
Quoth I, "I am nothing but Time."
