The Beauty of the Dead

Bang said the gun.
Now I lie here,
Underground and satisfied with the duty I've done.
All I see is dirt far and near.

I am much older
Than the man lying here.
I represent a soldier,
But I am moldy from all the drying of tears.

Look at him so proud,
Marking a man who was loved.
He is in the middle and gets spoken to very loud.
Compared to us he is far above.

I'm red and lonesome, but full of power.
My crimson petals are as strong as bones.
I'm waiting for another flower
To sit in front of this grave stone.
