The Beginning

By

lonely waters
caressed the shores of
empty beaches
empty land
but there was nothing there to see
seagulls searched for food among
the barren sparkling sands
but there was nothing for them to eat
in town faces were long
curtains were drawn
and masks were worn in the streets
nobody stopped to talk to anyone
unless you count shouting across the street
and though we tried to get out
and not hide
there still wasn't much to see
