The Bigot’s Heart

Dedicated to Heather Heyer

Here I stand proud and strong
Convinced I am right and you are wrong.
Confronting you with wild eyed stare
Yelling and taunting with racist flare.
With the contempt, I show for any other
I assault my sister and kill my brother.
I march before you, to do you harm
When I could have stood with you arm in arm.
The strife is over and the smoke is clear
Our blood both red and our end both near.
I stand victorious over your broken frame
Unapologetic about of my shame.
And for all my violence, I could never see
The one I hated was always me.
