The Bridge calls out to me,
But I do not respond.
“There’s peace in my deep.” She says on a loop,
But I cannot find sleep.
I am potential food for her waters,
Staring wide-eyed out the car window
At the fishermen that dot the sea;
Hustlers who hover above
Her cold ravenous belly
“Get out of the car,
Get out of the car.
Come a little bit closer. “
I wonder if she says this to all the drivers and passengers
Speeding above her concrete.
Or is it just me?
Does she smell my weakness, depression and fear?
Do these three lurk like smoke above my head,
Smoke with mouth-watering aroma?
Does she fantasize about how good I’ll taste.
Today, she looks a bit more alluring.
Her grey is different from yesterday’s.
She has dyed her blue a different shade.
“Just one jump.” she says
“A leap, absent faith is all it takes.”
Red light, and the break halts.
The car door, I can open.
My feet can cover the distance.
The shouts I can ignore.
But, I cannot lose
