The Burden of Strength

To watch your loved ones suffer,
That is true pain.
A young bouncing baby boy,
Who barely has his teeth,
Abused by his mother.
You watch your father wither,
At the thought of his suffering boy,
You watch as he grows sicker,
With every rising sun.
You watch your brother die,
Just a little bit inside,
As his innocence is ravaged,
And all he can do is cry.
You want to ease their pain,
But you cannot in any way,
So you conceal your thoughts,
Protected by a lock and key,
And you simply pull away.
And by trying to avoid hurting them,
They just end up hurt more,
But you can't show them your pain,
You can't show them your suffering.
Strength is a burden for none,
But for those who must stay strong for others.
