The Cage

The water crept up to my foot.
A shiver ran down my spine.
I shrieked in terror as I was consumed.
People walked by as if everything was fine.

Screaming and hollering was all I could do.
As if I were a tiny bug, shouting to elephants.
A mere speck of dust in the world.
No voice or meaning.

The water was merciless.
Its arms were now grasped around my neck.
I slowly began to give up.
If only somebody had turned around to check.
