The Candle

PoemHe was a Candle unto all
Yet a shadow unto himself
He healed many
Helped many a broken man stand
Prevented countless suicides
Yet his world was dark
His laughter uplifted souls
A sense of humor leaving all smiling
Yet a heavy soul he had
Heavy with burdens untold
He couldn't tell
Who was there anyway?
And so The Candle blew out
Self-destructed
The flame extinguished
By the anguish within
All they found that hot Sunday afternoon
Was a wrinkled red rose, a scribbled note
And a dangling eerie Candle
