The Cat In The Moon

The cat in the moon is watching us
watching us, watching us;
the cat in the moon is watching
as she sails the midnight seas;
her net's cast wide for the little
star fish that taunt and drift and tease.
She sails the billows of roiling cloud,
riding them with ease...
My midnight cat is watching, too,
watching those sable seas;
watching her rival troll her nets,
hoping to snatch and seize.
She watches the moon with steady gaze
saying naught of what she sees.
She watches the moon with unblinking stare,
then tests the evening breeze.
She watches the moon with jade bright eyes
as it sails above the trees.
She watches the moon, then winks at me
and does whate'er she please.
The cat in the moon is watching us
watching us, watching us;
the cat in the moon is watching
as she sails those wine dark seas,
sailing her sickle-hulled silver ship
and doing whate'er she please.
