The Church of God’s Despair

Their words were right, sung well,
Their voices loud and fair.
But the Spirit of the Lord was gone
From The Church of God's Despair.
The Preacher with his Bible,
His voice like thunder boomed.
Tales of woe wounded hearts,
Far across the room.
"Just as I am," they sang,
"Poor, wretched, blind..."
Reminded once again
How terrible their kind.
"May God go with you," he prayed
For the dwindling few.
Sitting up front, Satan smiled
In the usual empty pew.
