The Cold Shoulder

Averted eyes and hurried steps
on a sidewalk
As if what once was
Had been forgotten--
But it had not been.

Two souls gliding past each other
In feigned oblivion
Of the love
Once believed in.

For a short moment
Their shoulders nearly grazed
As they moved in nervous opposites.

The girl giving only
This to the broken man:

The cold shoulder.
