The Dark Flower

Blooming in the winter's dark,
I wither in the light.
The only way to keep myself, from breaking down at night.

Keep away from those who hurt,
Lock your heart in stone.
Never let them see your cracks,
Always stay alone.

Smile, laugh, be polite,
Never stay too long.
Joke and play, be real nice,
Convince them nothings wrong.

These are rules I live and breathe,
They keep me corporeal.
A thing that they can see and touch,
But never truly feel.

A ghost inside a pretty shell,
Never here nor there.
Always out but looking in,
Unconscious yet aware.

I bloom inside the the winter's dark,
I wither in the light.
It's the only way to keep myself,
From breaking down at night.
