The Deep End of the Pool

Cutting through the pungent waves of discontent,
Thrashing in turbulence and infinite fear,
Although I should lurk in the shallows,
Somehow I find myself always here,
Knowing yet not knowing what awaits on the other side,
It pulls me in like an uncontrollable force,
Tempting me with all its possibilities,
Then quickly filling me with regret,
I have to sink or swim now that I am here,
But maybe next time I will wear a life jacket.
