The Desert

If you could see my face
you would feel the distance.

The glint of something shining;
A mirage in the space between us.
Both a beacon of hope,
and a cruel, materialized lie
Gleaming,
calling me forward.
Closer to its promise,
further from you.
Or is it drawing me closer to you.

That's the thing about the desert
and its mirages.
The closer you get,
the farther you must go.
