The Devil’s Quest

The devil's questing up and down
He's seeking souls to steal
In country and through town
With unflagging zeal.

Is it yours or is it mine
Old Nick will seize upon?
One soul gone without a sign
Before the next day's dawn.

If he takes yours then mine I'll yield.
Would you do that for me?
I won't live lone in town or field--
And Heaven like Hell would be.
