The Dutchess of Earl

I wanted to know my value, sought to have myself a-'praised'
Took to the local pawn shop, in the town that I was raised.
To the store keep, I'm a good-time girl, he smiles, "Long time no-see
Flatters, "You look great, Miss Cate,
how's your life and family?"

I seek 'Duke of Earl;
What's my value as a wife? Can he love what I see?
And can I trade my charms for his time
Spent reassuring me?

Oh, I'm going love the Duke,
He says he's going to love me
He pays me with his compliments
A Duke is what I need.
The shop had changed its ownership
The Duke had changed his name
He said, "I'm just an Earl now,
Do you still feel the same?"
