The Egg

By JD Ryan

A tiny egg without a nest
I had no straw on which to rest
My mother wren would warm me best
She did not wish to warm her breast
She did not wish to warm her breast

Among the brush they found my shell
Its contents, only time would tell
Though they knew not from where I fell
No burden on their hearts did dwell
No burden on their hears did dwell

That tiny wretch was sure to die
Had altruists not happened by
And now that tiny bird am I
Because of selflessness I fly
Because of selflessness I fly
