The Faceless Man

An ash-grey man
In the darkening streets
With obscure operations
No face
The interior unprosperous and bare
Contiguous to absolutely nothing
He had on a dress suit and patent leather shoes
Passengers on trains stare at the dismal scene
Simultaneously enchanted and repelled
Contributed his share of human secrecy
I didn't hardly know
Blind, everybody kept saying to me,
Get away from him
I thought he was a gentleman
I made a mistake
After a moment
Trail of ashes
