The Fall

Memories falling from the branches of my mind
I knew it was beginning
When the warmth I received from them began to fade
At first I didn't push the question--as to why?--
But then when I became chilled I began to ask--how?
These memories formed back when the sun danced high in the sky
When the animals ventured freely from place to place
When people consumed my time and repaid me with laughter
It was these moments that I wanted to keep so dearly,
And yet when I tried to reach out and
Devour the warmth hidden upon the memories,
I would be revealed the truth
The truth behind each single moment, minute, second
Even when I was satisfied, I was not
So I kept searching deeper and deeper until the memories
Themselves would lose their warmth, their color
Only did I stop
When I realized they all were precious beautiful moments
Creating a colorful mosaic upon my eyes
Yet it was too late,
Because right as their beauty showed they would break off and fall
Slowly falling
Swiftly cascading down
Memories falling from the branches of my mind
