The Fallen

People say I've never known death,
Never seen a hand fall still.
They say I cannot write
Of endings,
But I have seen the wives that cry in solitude
Wondering what's left for them,
The children that are told to look up
But who cannot help but cry into the ground,
The brothers who cannot cry with tears,
Who cry in words
Or silence.
People say I've never known death,
But I've known tears,
I've known pain-
I've known the silent phones and empty words,
The comfortless night that despairs of dawn.
I've never seen the plunging fall,
But I can write
About the fragments
Left behind.
