The Fight Continues

Free at last, free at last?
Not until we could get beyond our past
Segregation made us unequal
To many, it was just slavery the sequel
Freedom Riders and Civil Rights Acts
The struggle intensified for American blacks
Evers, Meredith, Parks and MLK
They made a difference in their own way
Malcolm vowed to end it with a fight
Until every one of his people had an equal right
Decades of poor treatment and discrimination
Years of prejudice and persecution
Some reforms were passed
But too many lives were taken too fast
Racial issues wouldn't go away
The deep-rooted problems we cannot downplay
We see this in society over 50 years later
Some would argue that there still is no matter greater
