The Fight to Be Healed

Why did you have to go away?
I only saw you once and I didn't know you weren't here to stay.
I couldn't have known that you would be gone soon.
You knew but it was still sad.
All around you, everyone knew.
But it didn't change all the things you wouldn't be able to do.
It didn't change who you would live on to be in our hearts.
Forever and ever in our minds as this boy who couldn't
get the eternity he deserved.
Forever the boy fighting,
But we fight for you now.
We wll always fight to see a world with no cancer,
where no one else will have to say goodbye.
It's not a goodbye, it's a see you later.
We will forever fight for you,
always.

This Poems Story

On July 4th, Nick Cammarata was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. His type of cancer was a harder form to cure. After four months of intense chemo-therapy, Nick attained remission, but needed a bone marrow transplant. A donor had to be found, but on October 26, 2008, Nick passed away. A foundation was created to honor him called Nick's Fight to Be Healed. This foundation reflects Nick's values and personality. By helping other patients with cancer his spirit lives on. Janine Cammarata, Nick's mom, has shown me the importance of fighting back and how giving back can transform you.
