The First Day I Saw You

Like an angel, you glanced over at me
as though to pierce the very skin of my soul
in the most delicate and beautiful way.
Eyes like the gentle mist of a mountain breeze
swirling its subtle fingers through the soft vines
of an old, weeping willow tree.
Thoughts like teardrops rolling over a child's hands, then
pulling back to clench his cheek before pooling at the base of
his chin for one last meager attempt to hold on before falling.
Skin, like the soft glow of a brilliant sunrise as it gently
crests its head over the horizon, revealing the landscape
of an image so breathtaking
that the halo's in one's eyes couldn't possibly be as
welcomed as this moment's perception.
Where am I?
Lost in the depths-
too far out to understand, too far in to see truth.
And still, after all these years, my heart beats on.
