The First Snow

Sailing through the darkness
Bearded man in white
Secret smile on his face
Fur coat bordered in white lace.

Arriving via winter wind
At a placid town
Windows lit by flickering flames
Trees all bare and brown.

Then with a breath of swirling magic
Jack transforms the town,
From cold and bare and brown and dull
Into a chill'ed wonderland:

Lifeless branches bedecked in jewels
Feathery fractals embroidered on sills
Earth baptized in gleaming white
And Jack has vanished, by the night.
