The Flame

Tender sparks lick out hopeful and timid, longing,
Needing yet fearful, tentatively desperate to catch.

Unsure flames spread and rise, grasping at uncertain straws.
Dreams manifest into blissful heat. Quivering unfulfilled no more
The charcoal bursts brilliantly into a thousand thousands of confetti
As bold fire roars through it, over it, in it, so ravishing.

Towering twisting magnificent breath stealing,
Scolding in beauty, comforting in warmth.

Bright and brief it matures to embers, glowing
Shadows reminiscent of wilder times drift to
Existence. Loving, calming, caring, magical. A sweetheart's gift.

The blaze distorts to harm
Extinguished by cold wrenching ripping tears
Nurtured by bitterness.
Left behind; a husk; a shell of ash and shattered hearts.
