The Flame Flickers
Steps strike the street with purpose striving to
A nearby goal that seems so far away.
Legs looping, muscles start igniting to
Fatigue from stamina of yesterday.
My feeble cursed legs defy myself,
A self-inflicted sting, internal strife.
Stop or sustain? My feet call out for help.
Such are decisions in reality life.
But satisfaction of what overcome,
When burning knees are flickering rewards.
What muscles, trained and strengthened, have become.
Accomplished by heart's own scorching accord.
Surrender heat to my internal air
Cool to calm embers, I shall persevere!
