the forest

running with her feet, leaves crunching beneath them
she's afraid to turn around
afraid that she'll see what she's leaving behind
that she'll go back where she isn't wanted

leaves crunching beneath her feet, running with them
holding hands back in a time where things were simple
hands holding on to what they didn't know would slip away
holding tight to nothing more than those who don't care

leaves them running, with her feet crunching beneath
the weight of a bitter past heavy on her shoulders
weight of the anger, the fights haunting the walls behind her
of the guilt that comes with running away, weighing her down
