The Forgotten Flesh
in lost memories
far beyond our reach
exist those who we choose
to forget
swallowed whole
by the agony of forfeit
they slumber unknown
until death
what might have been
is not what has become
we adorn the mask of grief
to lift our burdens
and make believe
for those who care to see
prayers are forced
words we do not mean
serenade a corpse
to keep our spirits clean
absence shall wither
empty tears to suppress
no comfort for
the forgotten flesh
none shall recall their names
but to sooth our guilt
we bury their remains
for ages to wilt
obscured from our mind
a carrion song we play
concealed from our sight
as the bones decay
far beyond our reach
exist those who we choose
to forget
swallowed whole
by the agony of forfeit
they slumber unknown
until death
what might have been
is not what has become
we adorn the mask of grief
to lift our burdens
and make believe
for those who care to see
prayers are forced
words we do not mean
serenade a corpse
to keep our spirits clean
absence shall wither
empty tears to suppress
no comfort for
the forgotten flesh
none shall recall their names
but to sooth our guilt
we bury their remains
for ages to wilt
obscured from our mind
a carrion song we play
concealed from our sight
as the bones decay
