The Fortress

The Fortress

The sunlight filters through the cracks
spraying sunshine inside
Your heart is like a fortress
in a grave need of light.
Why don’t you let me in?
Why don’t you let me peek inside?
What is that you are
trying so desperately to hide?
The heart houses smile and flowers.
Don’t let them wither away
All the darkness lurking inside
is not there to stay.
The moats you have built around the fortress keeps enemies at bay
The crocodiles around the heart chase the unknown away
But why, oh why, am I still unfamiliar?
Why is the way to your heart still unclear?
What do I have to do to make you see?
that you are perfectly stitched for me.
I won’t let you fall down again
I’ll carry you in my arms
I’ll be there before you
if your heart comes to harm.
One day, I’ll come and find you
One day, I’ll make you feel this
One day, I’ll show you that
we both are meant to be.
