the freedom of chains

the malice of pain falls,
chopping the heads of children
wearing a shirt tied
around their heads one day.
the next day
tears roll down their
face the way
butter strolls down popcorn.
no longer can their thoughts
be as free as the wind blows,
but now a chain is worn
around their head.
that's what they are.
the venom of
fear, judgment, and guilt
flows through their veins
as their
tainted heart
pumps it through their bodies.
