The Gardener

He woke with the rising of the sun.

His hands were aged and calloused.
they tilled the soil,
they planted the seeds,
and they tended the plants.

His hat was tattered and worn.
it shaded his eyes,
it shielded him from the sun,
and it kept him dry.

His body was slumped and tired.
he pulled the weeds,
he lugged the water,
and he harvested the crops.

He lay down with the setting of the sun.
