The Gift

I have known him
Since high school
Seen the changes
Since his stint in South Korea
Magnified by his time in The Gulf
My personal poster child for every column
I have as a journalist, ever written against war
Though I swore never to love him
I did.
I do.
Every day is a reminder that while he
Served with honor, dignity and pride
War is the gift
That keeps on giving
Long after it ends.
