The Gift

The greatest gift I can give you is not the one of life
But one of love eternal as I teach you wrong from right
A love that wipes your tears, placing Band-Aids when you fall
A love that will remain, far past when you are small
This love will watch you always, mature and learn and grow
Celebrate your birthdays, and someday let you go
Out into the world a man, no longer my little boy
And when that day arrives, I will watch on with joy
When you no longer hold my hand, you will still tightly hold my heart
For a mother's love knows no bounds, distance cannot keep it apart
I did not give the gift of life, but in my heart I know
The love I hold is a mother's, and it will never let you go
I did not give the gift of life, was not there the day of your birth
But I vow to love you always, and show you your true worth
