The Guardian Son

He is still with you, make no mistake, for when you least expect it,
he gets your attention awake.
He shows himself in the biggest ways,
but he also is subtle and tries to send words to say.
A free spirit boy who lived life so fast;
no one knew that it might not last.
And though his shell is gone, his spirit marches on.
You can look and find him at each new dawn.
He protects you always just like a guide,
never doubt Billy is by your side.
He says, "Dad, I'm still here--just look for me,
I haven't left you but you must seek to see."
I stand beside you when you are afraid,
I promise I'm here, I wouldn't stray.
I help you to see there is another way,
I'm like your guardian, I guess you could say.
I'm in all your memories and deep in your heart,
I love you, Dad, I could never part.
Trust and believe in what you can't see,
and I promise one day you will embrace me.
