The Hands of Time

The clocks we build to tick away the time
Are certainly from humankind’s bright minds.
But mind that time - it isn’t mine or thine.
And mind that mind - is isn’t by our kind.

Those clock-hands follow God’s hands’ handiwork.
His hands made minds that made those hands mind time.
His hands made time that hands of clocks must mind.
Yet we claim - yes we claim! - mind’s mine; time’s mine.

While wasting God-made time with slothfulness,
We gripe, “Don’t waste my time.” What hypocrites!
“I don’t have time to pray today. Sometime,
Okay? Some other day. My time - my way.”

Forgive us, Lord, for our failure today,
Tomorrow, everyday. To pray, always,
Teach us today. Teach us today to say
“I thank you Lord for day to day, Your way.”
