The Illegitimate Child

I've known little peace but love and heat
Since savage birth, never tame
I create my miracles, damning defeat

Conceived in affair, in lies bitter-but sweet
As momentary love, a bed of flame
I've known little peace but love and heat

I have a desire, to grow, conquer, eat
With vigor, since the womb, I know no shame
I create my miracles, damning defeat

What must it be like to be born complete?
To have a stable home, to be sure of your name
I've known little peace but love and heat

I do not trust temporary wood rather concrete
Solid as a pair of working hands, books, a window frame
I create my miracles, damning defeat

I've learned to love laughs, control, wild wild wheat
What we are given does not mean we turn out the same
I've known little peace but love and heat
I create my miracles, damning defeat
