The Jealous Sea

The mention of her name is a riptide of emotion
Like a wave, my feelings crash down
I am frantic to keep my head above the raging water
My insecurities weighing me down
I am strong, I know I can breathe easy
Thoughts surrounding me but nothing to hold on to
I gasp for air, desperate to feel the sand below my feet
I see the horizon and the vast open water calms
The sound of your voice, the touch of your skin is my life jacket
I am buoyed back by the knowing embrace of the water
I float to the surface, the warmth of the sun touches my face
Panic is replaced with peace as I bask in the sea of your love
