The Last Lap

Visualizing before you a flow of blue
Approaching the characteristic chill
Adapting effortlessly to the descent
Invigorated tolerant of the limitations
Enveloped in a realm of silk
Arms propelling beyond imagination
Silence within a proverbial bliss
Mindful of a sporadic intrusion
Strenuous until midstream
Downhill in a world of your own
Inside a calculated rhythm
Intensifying momentum
Careening through queasiness
Closing the eyes to distraction
Controlling the breathing
Fulfilling the aspiration
Advancing to journey's end
Anticipating the reward
Shaking off the coldness
Welcoming the warmth

This Poems Story

About forty years ago, a close friend gave me the nickname Poe. At the time I didn't realize its significance. The majority of my poems are love poems that rhyme. After discovering there was a lack of interest in rhymed poems, I resolved to undertake writing a poem without rhyme. My poems are written from deep within my soul, revolving around experiences throughout my life. I am passionate about swimming as it is the only cardio exercise that I can do and decided to illustrate what it feels like and means to me in a poem entitled "The Last Lap."
