The Loss of Love

Like shattered glass on ice pavement
A heart is cracked and frozen cold
No longer singing sonnets
Or even humming hymns

Veins once as strong as summer
Have given in to winter's fury
Blood once as red as rage
Has transformed into blue blades

Betrayal seeps in deep
A pounding that will not sleep
It burns much like flames
And leaves nothing but shame

Love that was once so strong
Is unraveled and turned to dust
When the one who was never wrong
Decided to give in to lust
