The Lost Girl

Her dreams in the sky
But her thoughts in the ground
She runs to somewhere she can't be found
Leaving trails of tears and whispers why
Words go silent and memories abate
As lives move on she fades away
But listen close and you'll hear them say
That she'll come back one day, that it's her fate

Years go by and she begins to wonder
As the cloud moves on to another head
What she's left behind and what's been said
But the cloud comes back with a roar of thunder
The girl was close to coming home
But she couldn't quite escape the storm
Once in a while she'll begin to feel warm
A second's escape from feeling alone

She clings to the warmth with all her might
Determined now to move on from her past
Then right when she thinks that this time it might last
The girl lets it slip with a man in the night
And now the girl knows she should have stayed
Surrounded by those that wanted her beside
She left in pursuit of a place she could hide
A place she found, where alone she was laid
