The Making of the Morning
God looked down on the earth today
And saw that night was done.
He smiled, rubbed His hands and said,
"It's time to paint the sun."
He picked up His large painting set
And set down right to work;
He dipped His paintbrush in His cup
And flicked it with a jerk.
The paint it flicked across the sky,
A purple at the first,
So in the dark and sparkling sky,
It shot out with a burst.
Then with gentle strokes, He used His brush
To fade away the blue.
With lighter purple now, this time
And sprinkled down some dew.
Then just above the horizon
Came a little orange glow-
The paint brush just above the line
He traced that very slow.
He circled His arms 'round and 'round
And then came out the sun.
He looked down on the earth and said
"Good morning, everyone."
