The Mermaid’s Tale

There she was
Right before me
Swimming freely
She had pale skin
And a shimmering fin
What could she be?
She lived beneath the ocean waves
Not a single hair out of place
She sang gracefully
About her life in the sea
Every night she sang the same song
Repeatedly
She swam with fish and whales
And to many she told her tales
She watched the humans from afar
And she wanted to be where they are
She wished to know more
About the humans she adored
So she swam close to shore
And observed them more and more
She dreamed of walking on land
And lying on the golden sand
She thought of all the land she could roam
But she couldn't leave the sea
Because it was her home
