The Mirror

When she looks in the mirror she sees a stranger
A wrinkled old hag that brings her anger
What happened to the pretty young girl she once was
Forty years of marriage is what this does
Whining, griping, condescending
For this she gave up her happy ending
When she looks in the mirror she sees a tear
For there was once a man she loved and truly held dear
It was an unrequited love and not written in the stars
Though the pain is real and in her heart the scars
She knows now that life is not what is seems
Only full of empty love and long-lost dreams
