The Nameless Faces
I've heard a mother cry
As her child slowly passed away.
I have listened as a grandmother held on till
I said help was on the way.
I've talked many out of doing harm
To themselves and to others.
I've also comforted a child
Who has also lost a mother.
I've listened as a person screamed in fear
As her life was taken away.
I've listened as life was breathed into another
So on this earth they could stay.
I've listened as a male screamed in anger
And brought harm to himself.
I've also spoken to the elderly and disabled
Who could not help themselves.
Never have I seen any of their faces
I've only heard their voices.
Some I have helped but others had no choices.
As I close my eyes at night
I drift to many places.
But usually I end up at
The place of nameless faces.
