The Names We Lament

Tamir Rice and Dante Price, add Kajeime Powell
To Raheim Brown, and DeAunta Terrell Farrow.
They were gunned down, like our man Jonathan Ferrell.
Grieve! for these endless killings only sow sorrow.

We convoke the victims; call out their names in vain:
Alberta and Dialo, Tamon and Ousmane;
Dolorous is the roll of those unjustly slain.
Pitiable victims! For you we cry this plaint.

Steven Eugene Washington, and seven year-old
Aiyana Jones, add Sandra Bland at twenty eight,
And continue to index regrettable fates.

Jordan Baker accompanied Akai Gurley.
Enough! Lament our dead! Cry out their threnody!
For t'day we deplore, heinous police felonies.
